3 Wintertime Immune-Boosting Strategies

We know the feeling all too well: a slight headache, a twinge-like feeling in the sinuses, muscle aches, and a slight shiver – all indications we’re about to come down with something. Wintertime colds and flus aren’t always avoidable, so having the strategies and support readily available before you get caught in the swirl of illness can make all the difference in the world.

Strategy #1

If you feel like you’re getting the flu, here’s the fastest down-and-dirty trick that will nip it in the bud super fast! Known as the Cold Sheet Treatment (don’t let the name scare you too much…), this can keep a full-on bout with the flu from materializing. If you’re still curious, read on…

Step 1: Make sure there are cotton sheets and natural fiber blankets (plenty of them) on the bed.

Step 2: Open all the windows and pull back the sheet and covers, allowing them to get super cold.

Step 3: Get in a hot bath (as hot as can be tolerated) with 2-3 cups Epsom salts; stay for at least 20 minutes.

Step 4: Get out of the bath and head straight for the cold room; get in bed, cover up and go to sleep. You’ll feel MUCH better by morning!

Strategy #2

If you suspect you have a viral issue such as a head cold, the best herbs to take are thuja, St. John’s Wort and licorice. These should be dosed fairly high for the first 2 days along with some immune support such as andrographis or echinacea. A source of calcium lactate is also important as this helps the immune system kick into high gear! (We have these supplements available for you).

Strategy #3

Stay hydrated, especially if you have diarrhea. We recommend adding ½ tsp. Celtic Sea Salt to 16oz of filtered water to replace any lost minerals. And if you can’t keep anything down, take as many baths as possible. You’ll absorb water through your skin and prevent dehydration.

It takes a team to help you stay strong, fit and well throughout the winter. We’re always here for you!
